Nha Trang University (NTU) has achieved an important milestone with the delivery, installation, and commissioning of advanced machinery for its new Demonstration Center, dedicated to recycling discarded fishing nets. The equipment—shredder, extruder, granulator, filament maker, 3D printer, and tensile test tower—was officially unveiled during an opening ceremony attended by university leaders, partners, and students.
The center is already operational, though some final adjustments are being made to ensure smooth interaction between the machines. These fine-tunings are part of the normal process of bringing cutting-edge technology into full use and will soon allow the recycling chain to run at its best.
This development is closely tied to the REVFIN project—Prevention, Reduction and Recycling of Fishnet Pollution in Vietnamese Coastal Waters—in which NTU plays a leading role. REVFIN addresses the problem of abandoned or discarded fishing gear by promoting recycling, capacity building, and the creation of sustainable market solutions. Through this initiative, students and researchers gain hands-on experience with modern recycling technologies, while industry partners benefit from practical demonstrations of circular economy approaches.
With the Demonstration Center now in place, NTU strengthens its role as a hub for innovation, education, and collaboration in the fight against marine litter, turning fishing net waste into valuable new resources.
