Vietnam Tuna Association

Vietnam Tuna Association (VINATUNA) was established by the Ministry of Home Affairs dated October 27, 2010 and is directly managed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD). VINATUNA is a non-governmental, socio-professional organization, including enterprises and citizens of Vietnam operating in industries and fields related to the protection, fishing, exploitation, production, business, processing and consumption of tuna sources of Vietnam. The association is voluntarily established, not for profit. Currently, VINATUNA has its head office located in Nha Trang City and three branches in Khanh Hoa, Phu Yen and Binh Dinh provinces. VINATUNA and collaborators have been coordinating the Fisheries Improvement Project (FIP) for yellowfin tuna as well as skipjack tuna (e.g. reducing bycatch, MSC certification, awareness raising for safety of life at sea, fair labor practices in the fishery, fisheries traceability, mitigating fishery impacts on Endangered, Threatened, and Protected (ETP) species).

VINATUNA has close relationships with fishermen, businesses and government organizations in the tuna fishery and participated in a number of FIP projects. Therefore, they have been enhancing and improving their abilities to fulfill their mission.
